Middle Kaligandaki Hydroelectric Project (66.3 MW)

Middle Kaligandaki Hydroelectric Project is a run-of-river project located in Myagdi District, Gandaki Province, Nepal. The entire project area, from the intake to the powerhouse, including the transmission line, lies within Annapurna Rural Municipality. The project has a design discharge of 52.85 m³/s, a gross head of 151.0 m, and an installed capacity of 66.3 MW.

Darshan Consulting Services Pvt. Ltd. (DCS) was nominated by Nabil Bank Ltd. to provide technical consultancy services for the project. On 4 February 2026, DCS entered into a contract agreement with Nabil Bank Ltd. and Hydro Support Pvt. Ltd. to undertake periodic site monitoring and bill verification for civil, hydromechanical, electromechanical, and transmission line works.

Scope of Services

  • Verify Interim Payment Certificates (IPCs) submitted by contractors and certified by the employer’s construction supervision engineer stationed at the site. Prepare and submit disbursal reports based on authentic progress reports, IPCs, photographs, clarifications provided by the employer, and site verification as required.
  • Conduct periodic site monitoring and field visits, and prepare field visit reports.

Principal Project Features

The civil works include a 50 m wide ungated diversion weir and two sluice bays, each 5.0 m wide, adjacent to the intake structure. The weir crest is at elevation 1,329.25 m. The upstream concrete floor is 44.65 m long, and the downstream stilling basin floor is 50.0 m long. Cut-off walls are provided at the upstream and downstream ends of the floor.

The side intake comprises eight orifices on the right bank, with an invert level of 1,324.50 m and a trash rack at the intake. Approach culverts convey water from the intake to a two-bay desilting basin, with two hoppers in each bay, to remove coarser particles. The uniform section of the desilting basin is 105 m long.

The water conveyance system comprises a power culvert, a headrace tunnel, and vertical and horizontal pressure shafts. The power culvert conveys the design discharge from the desilting basin to the headrace tunnel. The D-shaped headrace tunnel is 4.25 km long, with an excavation diameter ranging from 5.4 m to 6.3 m. A circular surge shaft at the end of the headrace tunnel is 13.0 m in diameter and 45.3 m high.
